C['var1'] did not work for me.
I need to print the array value like this C["var1"]

My bad.

It did not work because you cannot nest single quotes inside single quotes in the shell; it ends up looking to awk like C[var1], and it treats var1 as a blank variable.

If you put the awk code inside a file, and run it with awk -f, it handles single quotes just fine, but I should have caught that anyway. Bad habit, sorry.
