Shell Programming and Scripting

I am trying to call a script that I have written from another script and prompt the user with a "read" from the called script.

Something like this:

test.sh

Code:

#!/bin/ksh

var=`test2.sh`

echo $var

test2.sh

Code:

#!/bin/ksh

echo "Please enter a value: "
read p_value

echo $p_value

Now when I run test.sh the cursor drops to the next line and hangs there. Then if I press the enter key I get the prompt "Please enter a value:" and the script is exited.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm a newbie so any help will be greatly appreciated.
