Archiving in Perl

Hi Guys

i am experiencing this problem when trying to archive a file in perl. the files name is created dynamically. (my $date = `date +"%d%m%Y"`Smilie
Code:
`tar czf /opt/memex/backups/Complete$date.tar.gz /opt/memex/backups/Complete$date`;

error message:
Code:
tar: Cowardly refusing to create an empty archive Try `tar --help' or `tar --usage' for more information.
sh: line 1: .tar.gz: command not found
sh: line 2: /: is a directory

If you could please help with this.

Than you in advance

seems your $date variable has \n

do chomp($date); before the tar command
