Scrutinizer,
Thanks. I was heading in this direction, but you beat me to it.

shadyuk,
Will you ever have any fields you don't want converted that just contain a string that is one or more 'G', 'K', or 'M' characters and zero or more decimal digits?

Don - No, only the bit rate fields follow this format.

Im not sure how to use this. I understand that you're defining which fields the script should translate. Therefore, assuming I want it to translate 3, 5, and 9, is the following syntax correct?

Code:
if [ $# -ne 1 ] || [ ! -f "$1" ]
then echo "Usage: $0 file" >&2
        exit 1
fi
awk '
  NR==1{
    $0="Some header"
  }
  NR>1{
    for(i=2; i<=NF; i++) if($i~/^[KMG3]+\/[KMG5]+\/[KMG9]+$/) sub("/",",",$i)
    $0=$0
    for(i=2; i<=NF; i++) if($i~/^[KMG3]+\/[KMG5]+\/[KMG9]+$/){
      p=0
      if($i~/G/) p=9
      if($i~/M/) p=6
      if($i~/K/) p=3
      sub(/[GMK]/,".",$i)
      $i*=10^p
    }
  }
  1
' FS=, OFS=, "$1"

No, that is not correct. You should not need to adjust the script. It tests the format of the fields and only converts if they conform to the format. Try running it like it is...
