In addition to using awk and perl, this can also be easily done with ed:

#!/bin/ksh
ed -s file.txt <<-"EOF"
        ?^START?,$p
EOF

I use ksh, but this will also work with any other shell that support basic Bourne shell constructs (including at least bash and sh).
