Java Help with sed command

Hello All,

I have a value file (ValueFile.txt) which looks like

ValueFile.txt
Code:
$DB=XYZ
$INPUTFILE=/project/data/data.file.in.1.txt
$OUTPUTFILE=/project/data/data.file.txt

What I would like to do is replace the

Code:
$INPUTFILE=/project/data/data.file.in.1.txt

with

Code:
$INPUTFILE=/ABC/data_ABC/data_ABC.file.in.2.txt

I would like to "update" the valuefile.txt.

I want to read it and then write it out with that specific record replaced with the new value to a new filename NewValuefile.txt
and then replace the original file with the new file.

I tried doing 1st step of replacing specific record with the new value by using sed command but was unsuccessfull.

Code:
sed -e "s/$INPUTFILE=/project/data/data.file.in.1.txt / $INPUTFILE=/ABC/data_ABC/data_ABC.file.in.2.txt/" ValueFile.txt > NewValueFile.txt

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try change quotes and remove spaces (and please use code tags for code):
Code:
sed -e '
s/$INPUTFILE=/project/data/data.file.in.1.txt/$INPUTFILE=/ABC/data_ABC/data_ABC.file.in.2.txt/
' ValueFile.txt > NewValueFile.txt

Thanks.

I tried and I receive following error.

Code:
sed -e expression #1, char 20: unknown option to `s'

Sorry. I was not attentive:
Code:
% sed -e '
s!$INPUTFILE=/project/data/data.file.in.1.txt!$INPUTFILE=/ABC/data_ABC/data_ABC.file.in.2.txt!
'

Sorry one more time. It's sunday and it's morning (for me). Can't really wake up yet. Smilie

You don't need -e here. (In GNU sed I believe you don't need it at all, in another seds you need it for several commands on a command line).

And in sed you can use almost any non-alpha delimeters in "s" command. It's useful for uses like yours - when you have unix pathes in your patterns. So instead s/.../.../ it's possible to use s!...!...! or s|...|...| or s^...^...^ and so on.
