Hi, you're welcome. There is nothing against very specific syntax, the only downside is that it looks more complex. I tend to only use the specificity that is required.

I found a problem with this.

If this is run on a file with 0x0a as the newline character, it works fine.

If this is run on a file with 0x0d0a as the newline character(s), it doesn't work. It seems to output a 0x0d character as the new newline, which isn't so nice on a unix machine.

I suppose, checking to see if 0x0d0a exists, then replacing it with 0x0a might work before doing the rest of the processing? Or if I'm wrong, I'd appreciate advice about this.

The problem is, this seems to be a huge subject and I'm getting a lot of noise when searching on it. I see stuff about unix2dos and dos2unix, but I would prefer to solve this with sed or awk.
