Help on grep
Hello All,

I have a file with following entries
Code:
cat test
yell
yell-dep
yellscripts

When I do a grep -w for yell it gives me the following output
Code:
grep -w yell test
yell
yell-dep

When I do a grep -w for yell-dep it gives me the following output
Code:
grep -w yell-dep test
yell-dep

Is there a way to get only yell but not yell-dep.

Something like this,

Code:
grep -v "yell-" testfile | grep -w "yell"

# 3

If "yell" is the only word in that line then:
Code:
grep -x "yell" test

OR
Code:
grep "^yell$" test

# 4

grep -?
On AIX 5.3 not possible :-)
