Do you want to compare second field in all the lines from termReport.pl against ignore array? If yes then create another script as i posted above and call that script inside awk

yes, that is what i want to do. i am little confused about where this new script needs to be and what exactly i need in that script. Could you please helpe me with this? Did you mean i should write a new function in side function analyzeConsole?

Create a new script having this code and keep the script in the same folder where you keep your main script.

Code:
file="path_to_file" set -A ignore
`grep -v "#" ${file} `
if [ $(print - "${ignore[@]}" | grep -c "$1") -gt 0 ] ;
then
      echo "found"
else
      echo "not found"
fi

Modify awk code as posted in above post to call the above script.

so this file path is to termReport.pl or is this to globallyIgnoredTc.dat?

Array ignore reads from globallyIgnoredTc.dat. So what exactly does this new script do?

I think i figured that out. Thank you. i need a one more thing. i have folowing code.

file=../data/globallyIgnoredTc.dat
set -A ignore `grep -v "#" ${file} | tr '[A-Z]' '[a-z]' `

i dont want a an array. i like to put my data file info (after filtering and converting to lower case) in to a string call "ignore". so it would look like this,
ignore= ffjtgj345 thgkty3 456gfhf rhtfn4 ......
how do i do that? i dont want to read # or blank lines.

my data file is as follows,
ffjtgj345
thgkty3
456gfhf

rhtfn4
#rfrgdbg
3434df

that is what i did. only issue is this comman sets up a string like this,
ignore=dgdb234
dbdjjn3434
3434jfgfn
gnjot4545

but i want it to be as follows,
ignore=dhnno334 ergujnd34 dfnjdng343 dfjndgvr45

What is the trick for that?

Code:
$ cat file
dgdb234
dbdjjn3434
3434jfgfn
gnjot4545
$ x=`cat file`
$ echo $x
dgdb234 dbdjjn3434 3434jfgfn gnjot4545
$ echo "$x"
dgdb234
dbdjjn3434
3434jfgfn
gnjot4545
