For-loop with NR

Hey all of you,

I have a very stupid question, but I don't know why, it just doesn't work. I have an output like this:
Code:
clear_01_01_12 286.070998
317.298085
363.381098
383.392224
386.121974
373.427115
345.287062

And I just want to redirect it into another file, where the numbers are written behind themselves. But because of having more then 56 lines I wanted to go for an for-loop with NR, but it just doesn't work.
Does anyone has an idea? And sorry again for the stupid question... (I think sometimes I am blind for the right solution...)

So here's my code up to now:
Code:
for i in clear_*.ill
do
    cat $i |awk '{
            if (NR==1) {
                   printf("%s %s ", $1, $2) >> "3_erg_ill_clear.dat"
                    #point (1000 2100 850)
                    }
        for (NR==2;NR==55;NR==NR+1){
                printf("%s ", $1) >> "3_erg_ill_clear.dat"
                    #point (2650 2100 850)
            }
        if (NR==56) {
                   printf("%s\n", $1) >> "3_erg_ill_clear.dat"
                    #point (2650 2100 850)
                    }
        }'
done

Thanks of every comment, Sandra

Don't use NR as a variable; it will conflict with the awk variable with the same name.

(Also, you have a UUOC.)

Thanks for your so fast reply. You know I am really asking myself. Maybe it is to late. This is something so stupid. But it still doesn't work. I tried it before with another variable, but also it didn't print out all the lines in one line...

Code:
a==2
        for (NR==a;a<56;a++){
                printf("%s ", $1) >> "3_erg_ill_clear.dat"
                    #point (2650 2100 850)
            }

Can you maybe put an example? Sorry again,
Sandra

What does "doesn't work" mean? What does happen? What did you expect to happen?

Please post the info using a variable that doesn't conflict with an internal awk variable. That may or may not make a difference, but there's no need to risk it; eliminate the possibility.

Hey, thanks for your patience.

I expect to have an output like:
Code:
clear_01_01_12 286.070998 317.298085 363.381098 383.392224 386.121974 373.427115 345.287062

But the same what I am doing it is never printing the line between 2 und 55. So my actual output is:

Code:
clear_01_01_12 286.070998 clear_01_01_12 clear_01_01_12

What does the input look like?

What is the script you are running?

The input is this ( I have a thousands of files called clear_*.ill):
Code:
clear_01_01_12 286.070998
317.298085
363.381098
383.392224
386.121974
373.427115
345.287062

The script is:
Code:
for i in clear_*.ill
do
    cat $i |awk '{
        if (NR==1) {
            printf("%s %s ", $1, $2) >> "3_erg_ill_clear.dat"
            }
        a==2
        for (NR==a;a<56;a++){
            printf("%s ", $1) >> "3_erg_ill_clear.dat"
            }
        if (NR==56) {
            printf("%s\n", $1) >> "3_erg_ill_clear.dat"
            }
	}'
done

and my output should be
Code:
clear_01_01_12 286.070998 317.298085 363.381098 383.392224 386.121974 373.427115 345.287062

But now it is:
Code:
clear_01_01_12 286.070998 clear_01_01_12 clear_01_01_12 clear_01_01_12 clear_01_01_12 clear_01_01_12 clear_01_01_12

So do have any idea, why it is doing this or how my script should look like? thanks for your help. I just always have the problems with NR and assigning a value to NR.
