Need help with script (awk)

I have a file with the following data:

Code:
       169 00:00:00.676 N
       174 00:00:00.696 r
       182 00:00:00.728 S
       191 00:00:00.764 )
       220 00:00:00.880 (t
       237 00:00:00.948 T
       256 00:00:01.024 t)
       344 00:00:01.376 (p
       349 00:00:01.396 P
       354 00:00:01.416 p)
       373 00:00:01.492 N
       377 00:00:01.508 r
       385 00:00:01.540 S
       392 00:00:01.568 )
       423 00:00:01.692 (t
       441 00:00:01.764 T
       459 00:00:01.836 t)
       549 00:00:02.196 (p
       554 00:00:02.216 P
       559 00:00:02.236 p)

Its repeated hundreds of times (N to p) ). I would like to extract the first field of the following lines (in order) which have the following in their third field:
S
)
(t

So for the first set of S ) (t i would like to have 182 191 220. And this process is repeated for all S ) (t in the input file.

So far all I have is awk '($3~/S/);' prints out all lines with S in the third field, but I need only the first field. Then there are the remaining two lines which have ) and (t of which I all need only the first fields.

Please assist. Thank you.

Code:
awk '$3 ~ /^(S|\)|\(t)$/ {print $1}'

Thanks for the input. Script works fine on a small file with about 50 lines. When I try it on a file that has about 4000 lines or so, I get no output. Does awk have an issue with large text files?

If you want to use perl

Code:
cat abc.txt | perl -e 'while(<>){chomp; @cols = split("\t"); if ($cols[-1] =~ m/^(S|\)|\(t)$/){ print "$cols[0]\n";}}'

182
191
220
385
392
423

I made the following change and it works:
($3 ~/^S|^\)|^\(t/)

Another follow up question:

Suppose the output of the above awk script stored in a file (file1). I then have a second file (file2) which has:
Code:
            182 0.435
            183 -0.285
            184 -0.690
            185 -0.625
            186 -0.510
            187 -0.325
            188 -0.220
            189 -0.200
            190 -0.195
            191 -0.200
            192 -0.205
            193 -0.210
            194 -0.220

When the first field of file1 and file2 match, I wanna print out the second field of file2. How to accomplish this?

EDIT: did some experimenting and this seems to do it:
awk 'NR==FNR{a[$1]=$1;next}a[$1] {print $2}'
