awk Question

I am calling awk from a DOS script (through Cygwin). I need to determine if a data set has any alpha characters or the decimal/period (.) character.

The data file contains a single line of data with two values, separated with a comma, followed by a line break/carriage return.

An example of valid data:

125838359346208, 123456

Examples of invalid data:

125838359346208, G123456
125838359346208, 40.00

So far, I have the following:

Code:
echo awk -v FS=',' -v OFS=',' '^{ > awk.s
echo if ^($2 ~ /^^[a-z]*$/^)>> awk.s
echo print $0 ^>^> "%bad_file%">> awk.s
echo else>> awk.s
echo print $0 ^>^> "%good_file%">> awk.s
echo ^}' %unix_import_path%/%import_file%>> awk.s

start /wait awk.s

It doesn't seem to be identifying the alpha characters at all. Also, I can't figure out how to identify a decimal since the decimal is interpreted as a wildcard.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Also, I am not committed to using awk, so, if you have a better idea, I am open to exploring it.

Try this sollution
Code:
awk -F'[a-z.A-Z]' '{print $0 " >> %" ((NF>1)?"bad":"good") "_file%"}' file
