hmmm so in gtar -L option mean something else..
in usual tar it takes inputfilelist.........
so refer gtar help for the same option(I think its -T in place of -L not sure)...

I'd approach the problem with zip, which allows you to specify a list of files to exclude:

zip -x most-recent-logfile -m archive.zip *.logs

The -m option moves the files after archiving them.

Figuring out the most-recently modified is just:

exclude=`ls -1t|head -1`

Of course, you might want to make sure it's the most recently modified logfile.

I fixed it by using T option instead of L option.
