Need help ftp a file
I am new at this stuff and I have never done this.

I need to do the following
I have files in a directory name like this

3526_33299.dat
3526_33492.dat

The only constant is the 3526, I need to FTP the last one, the user put it there everyday. in a network directory, I need it to ftp to UNIX..

I don't think is a logical sequence here 33299.dat and 33492.dat

I will appreciate if anybody out there can give some examples, I am in a timne crunch here

You mean the most recently updated/written file.
Code:
cd /some/directory
ls -rt  3256 | tail -1 | read lastfile
ftp somenode.com << EOF > ftp.log
USER myusername mypasswd
put $lastfile
bye
EOF

lastfile=$(ls -rt 3256 | tail -1 )
