That is all one file .. But I toggled the text (deleted a few of the, this is a test lines) so that the longest common phrase was yahooo lala lala .. but it was not picked up. Smilie

I will see if I can incorporate the check you have given me, and if it helps. Will get back to you. Thanks guys .. you have been a huuuuuuuge help Smilie

What was the input and what was the result?

The two seperate sets of sample data are too different to compare with one another and expect similar results. The first is text seperated by sentences using proper grammar to understand its structure. Your second sample is lines of words, they have no structure besides saying that each line is a sentence all its own. You can't compare the two and expect the same results.

Not to worry .. Smilie .. I have fixed it, I think. Doing a few more tests to see if my toggle works.

hmmm .. you have a point .. Smilie .. I will manually go through the extracted article to see if the script matches up to what i am trying to do.

Find the length of the longest line

Dear All, To find the length of the longest line from a file i have used wc -L which is giving the proper output... But the problem is AIX os does not support wc -L command. so is there any other way 2 to find out the length of the longest line using awk or sed ? Regards, Pankaj (1 Reply)
