The MS concept of DLL in terms of Unix is usually called a shared library or shared object file (*.so). Succesfully ported DLL into a Unix like Apps or OS is much known in Cygwin. In Cygwin the dll which acts as a UNIX emulation layer providing substantial UNIX API functionality.
