Since you haven't mentioned it, I'll assume that your database is MySQL.
That query simply returns the DATETIME value of yesterday, down to last second. It doesn't really fetch all items within the last 24 hours.

Again, since you haven't mentioned it, I'll assume you are working with DATETIME datatype, in which case the following query predicate -

WHERE dt_col < NOW() - INTERVAL 1 DAY
matches all dt_col values that are prior to yesterday (down to the last second); dt_col being your DATETIME column.
In case your table has future values in the dt_col column, and you want to match all dt_col values other than the range

where "h1:m1:s1" is the time component at this very instant, then you'd want to do something like this -
