To keep the forums high quality for all users, please take the time to format your posts correctly.

First of all, use Code Tags when you post any code or data samples so others can easily read your code. You can easily do this by highlighting your code and then clicking on the # in the editing menu. (You can also type code tags
and
by hand.)

Second, avoid adding color or different fonts and font size to your posts. Selective use of color to highlight a single word or phrase can be useful at times, but using color, in general, makes the forums harder to read, especially bright colors like red.

Third, be careful when you cut-and-paste, edit any odd characters and make sure all links are working property.

Thank You.

You have two choices:

1. Explicitly write code so that you use __FILE__ and __LINE__ each and every time you need them, or

2. Write and use a macro.

There's a reason why macros exist: sometimes they're the only way to do what needs to be done.

achenle,
Thanks for the reply. I trying to fetch the file name and line number of the function call using the "backtrace() and backtrace_symbols()" Functions.
I'm not sure how good this can work.

It can probably be made to work.

And yes, I did leave "use backtrace() and go through debug info" out of what choices you have. That's because doing that is highly non-portable and requires you to have debug data in your delivered binary, which someone could strip out later.

It's also much more difficult and time-consuming than using a macro.

But if you can get it to work, it will be a great learning experience.
