Hi

Using the sort command:

Code:
$ sort -n -k 1.7,1.10 -k 1.4,1.5 -k 1.1,1.2 file
01/11/2012
02/11/2012
05/11/2012

Guru.

The given input could either be in the form:dd/mm/yyyy or in the form mm/dd/yyyy. If it is the former form, the sort command provided by guruprasadpr should be fine. If it is the latter form, the sort command:
Code:
sort -n -k 1.7,1.10 -k 1.1,1.2 -k 1.4,1.5 file

or perhaps more simply:
Code:
sort -t / -n -k3 -k1 -k2 file

should do what was requested.
