dear all,

i am able to send mails using mailx to my internal users like "root" "oracle"

but if i want to sendmail to external domain for ex : gmail.com

kindly let me know how to do this.

There are several ways to do this depending upon your "internet presence".
The simplest way is to configure sendmail so that you use a smart host. The smart host is the outbound mail server that is supplied to you by your ISP.
A static ip address is not required.
You initiate the pick up of incoming mail from your ISP.
Your email address(es) will be maintained at your ISP.
This configuration is similar to what you would expect for a home user.

If you want to send and receive mail directly, then you need all of the following:
Static IP
Domain name and DNS entry for MX records.
Reverse DNS entry.
Mail server that is on 24/7.

I have the DNS server name and IP address and Mail Server name and IP address.

Kindly tell me where i need to put this.
