Network wireless connection

Hi
Having a problem getting the Orinoco silver
to work on Redhat 7.3. (new full install)
On install it worked - sometimes - but I had to manually set the default gateway to the wireless instead of the 10/100 ethernet card.
Most often I had to restart pcmcia to get it going properly.
Now its all broken. (I'm not sure why!)

The thing starts with the "beep-beep" to say the card is active etc. - the network, mask, etc. is all set - but it somehow doesn't see the gateway.
"network unreachable!!" when I ping.
I can activate/deactivate both network cards without problems -- and checked that the "pcmcia restart" uses and loads the correct modules.
The 10/100 on eth0 installs without any hassles.

Installing it on M$w2k it works....

I've gone thru all the setup files, as when I installed it for 7.1. (where I recompiled the kernel to get it to work). All seems fine.
I think there is something small I'm missing.. Any ideas?? Is there a trace or some such I can try to see what is cooking? Using "rc3" I can see activity on it. Don't really know what the red/green traces are telling me though Smilie
Any other programs I can use to monitor this??
Like some sort of sniffer??

Tx in advance

So you have a wireless network card and a 10/100 network card, you can get the 10/100 one to work but not the wireless one.

It seems like a routing problem???? (maybe, could be barking up the wrong tree).

Try killing the 10/100 card and working back from there.

Was the first thing I tried -> to disable the
10/100 card.
Even tried swopping eth0 and eth1 around - same problem.
Didn't help.

Seems the problem is comms with the base station.
I just don't understand why it worked (sometimes) and now refuses to connect at all.

Where can I find some sort of trace program?
Using the "rc3" utility - where can I find some more info ie. what does this top (red) and bottom (green) trace lines signify?

Is there a "snooper" program available to trace the raw packets on the cards?

Tx.

What is the output from a netstat? I still think it is routing. I have played about with the Orinoco silver cards under win2K and wasn't impressed with the firmware (the fact that the flashing light "diagnostic" was completely useless, even though the manual gives a huge array of errors based on the type of flashes it gives out).

Wireless probs

Is the Orinoco talking to a peer or to a Access Point, or Residential Gateway?
You might have put in a wrong network name on the AP.
The channel or encryption on/off?
And check your config files.

Have you tried the newest driver?
