Error Retrieve exchanged packets on a particular port
Hi,

I want to find out someway to get the number of exchanged packets (received, transmitted or both) on a particular service (so per Port). There are many network tools on linux (netstat, /proc/net/dev, iptables...) but I can not find an efficient way to get these information. All I can do is deducing the number of exchanged packets per interface, device or IP address...

too heavy for me, I need some linux light commands to use their outputs in a C programm. Finally I think that I do nomore need packets on a particular port, active connections is sufficient for my needs (using netstat with wc and grep command would be easy to do).

tcpdump may be more up your alley. nettop does nearly exactly what you want but has interactive output, not scriptable output...
