AIX

I am trying to install AIX 4.3 on a 44P-170 and am having problems. I have the 44P connected to a laptop through the serial port and am trying to boot from the IBM AIX 4.3 CD and I can only get as far as the SMS (I believe) screen. The current Processor Firmware is sh040616 and the system firmware is sph05195.

I have done this same set up with 4 other 44P-170s in the last month and probably 8 to 10 others within the last two years without any problems but this one will not boot and let me install the base AIX 4.3 OS. Any suggestions?

After doing a little more research, I am not getting to the SMS screen I am only getting tothe Service Processor screen (code E075, in LCD window) and when you hit '99' to exit the LCD reads 4B275810...

Are you sure the serial cables are the same you used last time?

Some cables miss the 6-8 shortcut.

If the serial cable was wrong the OP would not get into SMS menu.

The errrorcode 4B275810 is not described in particular. However from the error-ID range the server might suffer from some problem related to the processor or processor card. Attempt to reboot the system unit in service mode. If the reboot fails, attempt to boot from a CD-ROM. If the reboot is successful, run diagnostics in problem determination mode to determine the cause of the problem. If that fails replace the processor card (if you don't have another (from another server) I'd start with checking whether the current processor cards sits nicely in its slot).

VBE - thanks for the link to the document. I was able to find the same information shockneck is talking about. I pulled the processor card from the machine in question and put another one in from a different 44P-170 and got the same result. I then put the card from the bad machine into the donor machine and got it to boot up all the way. So it looks like it is the main board of the 'bad machine' and not the processor card that is the problem.
