AIX v.5.1 - system and user data backup

Hi everyone,

I have no AIX experience at all. We have an IBM Server running AIX v.5.1. The server has a DDS-4 tape drive. I need to take complete system and user data backup.Should be able to restore the system and the user data in the event of system corruption or disaster. I was told that for the purpose a bootable tape can be created. I need detailed instructions. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Sezgin

thats no big deal
Code:
smit mksysb

should do the job, just fill in ... the blanks! Other commands of interest are savevg/restvg and the like, be prepared to read the manuals Smilie

Close application.

Thanks. I have another question. After the servers boots, a custom application start automatically. It runs full screen and has no Close/Exit button/Menu Item. I can connect to the server with telnet and run smit to take the system backup, but I wonder if the running custom application may cause trouble. How can I force the application to close before I take the system backup ?

Regards
