picked up this old p520 , try many ways to connect to the SP..

a) null modem using a PC connecting to the lower S1 ...but see a bunch of
garbages across the screen once the main machine is off

b) try guessing the default IPs 192.168.3.147 and 192.168.2.147, for ports HMC1 and HMC2

no luck ..

However, I could hook up a graphical monitor where it comes up with a menu something like:

1. SMS Menu
8. Open Firmware Prompt

...etc and others..

Wonder if I could reset the IPs for the SP.

What settings are you using for the serial port. It should be 19200. Also you can reset the IP's for the SP by pulling the service processor out of the system. Once it is out you will see two very small dip switches. Just flip both of them to the opposite way in which they are now. That will reset the SP to defaults which will default the ip's to what you have noted above.

Make sure to disable tls 1.o when trying to connect to them with your laptop and use https:// not http://

yes, so 19200 is the speed, not 9600. I am going to give that a trial..
 
as for resetting the IPs in the SP , the default IPs would be 192.168.2.147 and 192.168.3.147.
This would be the ports at the back labelled as HMC1 and HMC2

..

I could use the browser to point to https://192.168.2.147

I had this server installed with AIX 7.1, but I can't manage the SP in the OS ??

it worked.. I used my Sun workstation's serial port to tap into it..using 19200 bps

managed to reset the IPs for HMC1 and HMC2..

managed to get in and reset the IP addresses..

connecting the ethernet cable to both hmc1 and hmc2..

I could now ping the IP address of both hmc1 and hmc2..

but trying to go https://ip_hmc1 or https://ip_hmc2
is no go..on this p520..

You may have to use an older browser to gain access. I use Opera 9.23 to connect to the ports. I have found problems on the new version of explorer and firefox.

so up to what version of the browser of ie and firefox is this thing supposed to work that you are aware of ??

This p520 firmware has been upgraded to the latest release..

besides, using nmap as a port scanner finds no ports are open..
