at least two times my system crashes. Post "all ports in use" imagine being related Telnet connections. The software uses port 33086 (specify for the software - it is the MSM-Mumphs).

It seems that this application is using a lot of ports. I don't understand what you wrote 1st about "telnet".

They talk about of no further available ephemeral ports, which are for temporary connections. The network options command no can limit the range of them. Check the man page for no about tcp_ephemeral_high and tcp_ephemeral_low. Maybe it the application is not working correct and opening/using too many ports for communication.
There could also be a hint in the documentation about this software what OS parameters they'd like to have when running their app.

<defunct> processes are zombies. You can only get rid of them with a reboot of your system. It seems that your applications has some problems so checking out the application logs could give more hints about what is happening. Maybe this application also has several levels of debugging so you could check out if there is any way to get more verbose log output if the current is not sufficient.

service the application uses the terminal to connect each user (around 600 users). at one point trying to open a new connection appears "log all ports are in use (in the user entry point)." If I can "kill" one of these connections I can log into the site of this connection. Who is Online continues to work, but does not allow new connections.
