I am running Oracle databases and recently have been facing slow IO response. I know in 11g one can run calibrate_IO from within DB and it would have given me some data for IO, but DB is 10g. Is there any tool available which can give me max MBPS, max IO requests per second system can handle and latency. This way I can reject/select good IO solutions, know which configurations are working e.g. files on server's internal disk. SAN , Raw files etc. The database is on SAN and it is the most likely issue.

apart from which oracle version and OS you are using, we so far do not know anything about your setup - so what do you want to know - general commands help troubleshooting?

Give us at least the basics please. What kind of workload do you have - OLTP or reporting, how many disks / size, general setup (1-2 VGs or a VG per filesystem). Do you have striped your SAN in any way (poor man's or real striping, max or min filesystem distribution), do you run async IO/cio/dio/SETALL ? And why do you think you have IO problems in first instance.

To real help, we obviously need the above info. And on top of that: vmstat -s and vmstat -v output, vmstat -Iwt 2 20 taken during some peak workload when you do experience problems, iostat -Dl, mount, lsvg -l <volumegroupname> for a genuine healthcheck (many IO issues are covered underlying other issues like memory or cpu). Later we might want to ask you for filemon and trace outputs.
