Hello I'm new to this Forum and I've got a big Problem.
Currently I have to Install Bacula ( Backup Software) on a IBM machine(with AIX 5.3) via SSH there is no chance for me for a directly interaction with the Server.
The Main problem is, I don't have Root access and no chance to get it.
And I'm not able to restart the Server, because there is very much traffic on it.
I have to Compile/Install Bacula and here comes the next problem ...
There is only a C Compiler installed, to compile Bacula i need to Install GNU/GCC Compiler.
Now there is another Problem :
If try it how its described in fedoraforum I get this message from the IBM Server :
I figured out that the path of packages.rpm is wrong.
My next try:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If there would be anyone who could help my this would be awesome.
THANKS !

Reason: code tags, please...
you can compile and use bacula or any other stuff as long as it only concerns the dirs that you have permission to write/read etc.
So get the appropriate gcc binary(for your arch) and compile the bacula from source(if you are not able to locate bacula binary) and run it inside in your /home dir.
However there's no possibility of installing any app without root credentials.

Gaurav.

Report your problem; state, that there is no way to do your work without certain requirements and let them choke on their paranoia. Nobody can do any meaningful work lacking the necessary means to do it - that includes software, hardware, permissions and much more.
Sorry, but this is the best advice i can give. You want to compile a program, (which maybe might work with a finite number of workarounds,) then want to install the program (which definitely won't work without root access) and you want to reboot the system - which also won't be possible without root authority.
Just as an aside: you want to compile software with a C-compiler which is not supported by the OS vendor - are you sure you really want such a software to run on your system?
There is no way to get the root access thats the problem.
Not the Server of the Company i work for ...
And It's like a test for me. Actually I'm in a Trainee Ship for a apprenticeship.
My first task was to Configure and Install Bacula on my Workstation (Solaris)
I've done this without any problems.
Well and the second task now is to Install Bacula on this damn IBM machine which isn't even from my Company.
Well but I recognized that my "Boss" also has no idea how to do this.
Well and i checked all directory permissions ... I've got no chance to Install Gcc and so no chance to compile Bacula ...
If you dive into gcc there are (or at least there used to be) cross-compiler options, that is to say that you coukld use your Solaris machine to compile for an AIX target.
From memory its a lot of work to do it - but may be a way forward for you.
