what does this script do?

hi all,

can someone explain what the awk portion does in this script:

Code:
ps aux | grep oracle | awk 'substr($10,length($10)-2,length($10)-1) >= 10 {printf "%5s\t",$11; printf "%5s\t",$5; printf "%2s\t",$9; printf "%1s\n",$10;}' | grep oracle

and how do i have it sorted in such a way that it will display all oracle processes that have been running for 10 minutes or more?

thank you!
adrianne

This is script is trying to do what you ask for.

The $<n> are fields which are separated at default bei any number of spaces, ie. blanks, tabs. $10 is the TIME column, the run time of the process.
With substr it cut's out the the seconds and sometimes even the colon. If this is greater or equal ten, it will print formatted (printf) some of the fields it found. For some reason or not it greps oracle at the end again.

This will not work this way imho.

Was this your try or why do you ask for a solution?
