Some memory is gone ?
Hi,

AIX system detects 24Gb memory out of 32Gb.
Where should I start troubleshooting to solve/diagnose this issue ?

# lsattr -El mem0

should return two values: total amount of memory and usable (good) memory. Ideally these values are identical.
Secondly, in case you use LPAR there is the chance that the amount of memory changed by a DLPAR operation.

More details here:

Two identical POWER5 machines were bought with 32Gb of memory specified.
One of them shows(lsattr -E -l mem0) 32Gb another 24Gb, I must provide the reason why it is so.

Maybe check via HMC to be sure which amount of memory has been assigned to which LPAR.

This is dedicated machine, no virtualization.

Open it up and check what's built in.

Check the errpt, do it gives any Hardware deconfiguration related error. If you have HMC check the system property, there you will find if any of the memory is deconfigured due to h/w problem.
