Hi,
I'm writing a shell script that rsh's onto a remote machine and runs a perl script that requires values to be entered as the script executes. I also need to ba able to see the outputs from the perl script.

Hi there
Probably a really simple question but I am writing an install script and at certain stages of the install (ie creating a table in mysql) the system prompts for you to enter a password, I was wondering, how do I script this input so that the install doesnt keep stopping for manual... (3 Replies)

Hi.. I have been asked to delete files in a certain directory in our AIX server, but the problem is, there are over 1000 files to delete. I am prompted by a yes (y) or a no (n) each time and i don't wanna type in a 'y' a thousand times.. :-( Is there a command that i can use to make things faster?... (1 Reply)

I setup the keys between 2 servers, but my user account has no password specified for it (never set one up on the account for security reasons). When I try to SSH to the server, SSH prompts for a password that doesn't exist (so I can never connect successfully).

Someone recommended using an expect script for an issue I was having so I tried writing one but of the 3 expected prompts on the screen, it only see responds to the first one. The code is:

I am writing a BASH script to update a webserver and then restart Apache. It looks basically like this:

rsync /path/on/local/machine/ foo.com:path/on/remote/machine/

however it needs root priviledge
my computer is configured by school and I have no real root priviledge
so I can't use sudo on my computer,like

Hi All,
I am a novice to UNIX, i need to know is there a way to provide 2 inputs when the shell prompts and i need to assign those 2 values to 2 separate variables. I dont want to give those values as a arguments (while running the script).

libgnome-keyring - gnome keyring library. DESCRIPTION
GNOME Keyring is a system to store passwords and other sensitive data in a standardized way across all GNOME applications. A keyring stores a collection of encrypted passwords and encrypted information about those passwords. A user can have multiple keyrings, each for a different use, but there is a default one, called 'login'. There is also a special 'session' keyring which is not stored on disk and goes away when you log out. When a user logs into GNOME, the keyrings are locked and a master keyring password has to be provided in order to unlock each of them. GNOME Keyring includes an SSH agent which integrates with the gnome-keyring and user login for its passwords. It can also use the main X.509 private key store. GNOME Keyring will set the SSH_AUTH_SOCK environment variable when it starts up. The id_rsa and id_dsa files in ~/.ssh are automatically usable through the SSH agent without first 'loading' them. Other X.509 private keys marked with the 'ssh-authentication' purpose are also usable. Additional SSH keys can be manually loaded and managed via the ssh-add command. If you use another SSH agent(such as the ssh-agent included with OpenSSH), you may want to disable the SSH agent in GNOME Keyring to pre- vent ssh from using it instead of your prefered SSH agent. You can set /apps/gnome-keyring/daemon-components/ssh gconf key to false. This prevents the SSH component of gnome-keyring from starting up when the user logs in. ATTRIBUTES
