Problem in assigning values to variables
Hi,
I have some problem in assigning values to variables: This is what Iam literally doing:
i=0
input=test
temp$i = $input
In the sense, I try to assign the value in the variable input (ie., test) to another variable temp0 (since i is assigned 0, temp$i is temp0). Seems simple, but I get this error...
ksh: temp0: not found.
The first 2 lines are correct - I checked using echo$i and echo $input commands... but echo $temp0 is null!!
Any idea on where I miss...
any help is highly appreciated...
Thanks,
Mohan

Before I even attempt this, is it possible to grep for a pattern, maybe a partial sentence like "go to page 3", assign that to a variable and then use awk or something to pull out the 3 and assign it to a variable? So first I would have

then
page = 3 (9 Replies)

envsubst
ENVSUBST(1) GNU ENVSUBST(1)
NAME
envsubst - substitutes environment variables in shell format strings
SYNOPSIS
envsubst [OPTION] [SHELL-FORMAT]
DESCRIPTION
Substitutes the values of environment variables.
Operation mode:
-v, --variables
output the variables occurring in SHELL-FORMAT
Informative output:
-h, --help
display this help and exit
-V, --version
output version information and exit
In normal operation mode, standard input is copied to standard output, with references to environment variables of the form $VARIABLE or
${VARIABLE} being replaced with the corresponding values. If a SHELL-FORMAT is given, only those environment variables that are referenced
in SHELL-FORMAT are substituted; otherwise all environment variables references occurring in standard input are substituted.
When --variables is used, standard input is ignored, and the output consists of the environment variables that are referenced in SHELL-FOR-
MAT, one per line.
