Newbie: Sun Ultra 5 Disk Replacement

Newbie: Sun Ultra 5 Disk Replacement
I have just started getting into unix and aquired a Sun Ultra 5 however the disk failed and I want to replace it with a spare maxtor 40Gb i have lying around. I need to partition and format the disk from its old windows format. I have looked up info on the format command in solaris 9 and I think i can partiotion the disk but i am not sure about formatting as it says the the format option within the format command only works with SCSI disks not IDE. can anyone help???

Hello everybody!!
I need your help again.
I am using Sun Ultra sparc 60 machine.Follwing are the types of files getting generated in /var/tmp.
"windu_sm_o aaaa,baaa,caaa,daaa" etc.
I am not able to locate which application is generating these files.

Hi Guys,
I have a 2nd hand Sun ultra-5, I wanted to know how to be able to run it as a normal window. I do not have any experience whatsoever with solaris/unix. Does anyone can give me a clue where to start. When I switch it goes to:

Hi All,
I bought a sun workstation from ebay. Can I replace the cd-rom drive with a dvd-rom drive with any type? I mean, can I just buy a dvd-rom drive from a pc store?

Hi all.
I am seeing in one of our less-used servers that it crashed and now won't restart. I get the message 'continue with normal startup or boot into maintenance mode'.
I go into maintenance and run fsck on /usr0 (mentioned in error at restart) it then reboots but goes right back to... (3 Replies)

Hi all,
I managed to salvage form work an old Sun Sparc Ultra 30. I have had it stored (controlled storage) for a few years and decided to get it home and boot it up.
It starts up with a beep then I can hear disks spinning up, CDROM moving but nothing is displayed on the monitor.

Hello,
On 4/20/2018, we performed a disk replacement on our IBM 8202 P7 server. After the disk was rebuilt, the SAS Disk Array sissas0 showed a status of degraded. However, the pdisks in the array all show a status of active.
We did see a message in errpt. DISK ARRAY PROTECTION SUSPENDED.
