awk script help
Hi there,
I want to create an awk scirpt which is going to change a text file like this.
In the beginning of each line to add the line number after <tab> and then the original line. I have to manage the case that the line has already the line number. This is also my problem how with the awk I can cut the number in the beginning.
I wrote this scirpt :

awk -F"\t" '$0 !~ /^[0-9]/ {print NR"\t"$0} $0 ~ /^[0-9]/ {sub([0-9]*,"",$0); print NR"\t"$0}' inputfile.txt

But of course the part in red is not working. But this is the idea more or less how I want to change the textfile.

This is an example:
Original text file
The external forces for the car manufacturersin Europe are a new competition law
and high labour costs in Western-Europe. In China
also changed the competition law, import quotas and nowadays it is easier

Changed
1 The external forces for the car manufacturersin Europe are a new competition law
2 and high labour costs in Western-Europe. In China
3 also changed the competition law, import quotas and nowadays it is easier

NAME

SYNOPSIS

DESCRIPTION

       The  mlib_SignaluLaw2ALaw()  function performs ITU G.711 m-law and A-law compression and decompression in compliance with the ITU (formerly

PARAMETERS

       The function takes the following arguments:

       acode	       A-law code array.

       ucode	       m-law code array.

       n	       Number of samples in the input array.

RETURN VALUES
