How do you Compile programs using cc?? I'm lost. Do I need to buy C or what? I'm only going to use it very few times a year. From what everyone seems to be telling me, it sounds like it is build into the Unix system but I'm having no luck. Please help or just point me in the right direction.

I notice that (Mandrake) Linux and Windows do not seem to operate alike in terms of installing third party software.
Windows, on one hand, creates icons and adds items to the Start Menu, with the help of the InstallShield--or equivalent, of course, but Linux, on the other hand, seems to care... (3 Replies)

Hi,
Im working for a company that has over 400+ unix/solaris boxes.
Obviously when we get a new unix guy join the company, its take us AGES to set them up on all these boxes.
Can people recommend any programs/packages that can be added to our unix/solaris boxes to make this easier?

I'm running Sun OS 5.9 and I need to find a place that has a precompiled version of the make command (I have no way of compiling software) and I would like to find a decent software repository, binaries are preferred but well maintained and easy to assemble (isn't lacking half a dozen dependencies... Hi. I have a problem in running a program in linux system. This program (damaver.l86) is in the path /home/shenk/damaver/, and it needs to call another program (supcomb.l86) in another path /home/shenk/supcomb/. Suppose i run passwd via bash shell. It is a suid program, which temporarily runs as root(owner) and modifies the user entries.

install-solaris install-solaris invokes the Solaris Install program. Depending on graphical capability and available memory at the time of invocation, install-solaris invokes either a text-based installer or a graphical installer. The following minimum requirements for physical memory dictate which features are available during installation: For SPARC machines: 128 MB Minimum physical memory for all installation types 128 MB Minimum physical memory required for windowing system 384 MB Minimum physical memory required for graphical-based installation For x86 machines: 256 MB Minimum physical memory for all installation types 256 MB Minimum physical memory required for windowing system 512 MB Minimum physical memory required for graphical-based installation In some cases, even if the minimum physical memory is present, available virtual memory after system startup can limit the number of fea- tures available. install-solaris exists only on the Solaris installation media (CD or DVD) and should be invoked only from there.
