Just for Info:

The Solaris Overlap Slice (Partition) is mainly for Backup Purposes. For Example you want to backup your entire machine, you have to backup at least / and swap.
So you can just backup one Slice which consists of the other slices.....

The Active Patition must be the Partition where the Boot Loader is located...

Hi, I have installed Solaris 8 on a PC, but I can not get the 2nd CD to install. I can log in to CDE desktop, by the way, is just black and white. Installing Solaris x86 through an external DVD drive through the USB port...

Is there a way to install Solaris 10 x86 with an external DVD drive that connects through the USB port? I would think I would run GRUB off of a floppy disk and somehow use that to make it look to the USB port to boot from but I don't know how to do that. Can anyone help me out? (1 Reply)

I have a X4600 box whose one of root disk has gone bad hardware error. I have another disk mirror but that is detached .. i do not have cdrom to boot from nor any x86 jumpstart server how can i boot the server from the alternate disk from the grub or failsafe mode (1 Reply)

install-solaris install-solaris invokes the Solaris Install program. Depending on graphical capability and available memory at the time of invocation, install-solaris invokes either a text-based installer or a graphical installer. The following minimum requirements for physical memory dictate which features are available during installation: For SPARC machines: 128 MB Minimum physical memory for all installation types 128 MB Minimum physical memory required for windowing system 384 MB Minimum physical memory required for graphical-based installation For x86 machines: 256 MB Minimum physical memory for all installation types 256 MB Minimum physical memory required for windowing system 512 MB Minimum physical memory required for graphical-based installation In some cases, even if the minimum physical memory is present, available virtual memory after system startup can limit the number of fea- tures available. install-solaris exists only on the Solaris installation media (CD or DVD) and should be invoked only from there.
