there is a forum here for Mac questions. (shhh. don't tell anyone Smilie )

try "startx" if you want to, but terminal.app cannot really do x11 per se. it's designed to work primarily in the OSX gui.
different from the X11 environment

the beauty of apple's implementation of X window software is that you can just double click X11.app.

Hey guys, I'm on a Solaris 9 boxes and I setup Putty to do X11 forwarding I can get my Xmanager to connect and load Xwindows screens fine. The libgdk-x11-2.0 library is an implementation of the GTK+ drawing kit for the X11 windowing system. It is used by GTK+ for low-level drawing operations.
