yes, two different domain names can point to the same IP address. with /etc/hosts , you just add that extra entry. same with your named config files.

problems figuring out dns

Im on an OS X 10.4 Mac server running bind 9.3, I just replaced the entire network with cisco hardware, all machines including servers now have private ip addresses that t he firewall resolves.        yppoll - return version and master server of a NIS map

SYNOPSIS

       yppoll [ -h host ] [ -d domain ] mapname

DESCRIPTION

       yppoll

OPTIONS

       -h host
	      Ask  the	NIS  server  process  running  on  host for information about mapname.	If host is not specified, the server polled is the
	      default server returned by ypwhich(1).

       -d domain
	      Specify a domain other than the default domain as returned by domainname(8).
