If you're going to use a line number, there is no point to also use the pattern matching stuff. Just a line number in front of a "a" command will do it.

The problem that you are having is that you are putting a variable inside single quotes. The shell won't expand stuff inside single quotes. You need to move the line number outside of the quotes. The code you posted would work if you would just put a single quotes around the variable reference. This would give you a quoted string, then your variable outside of the quotes, and finally another quoted string.

Hi, When deleting lines using sed, as i understand the lines are redirected to the standard output. What i'm unclear about is how to actually modify the file? htmlspecialchars_decode - Convert special HTML entities back to characters

SYNOPSIS

       string htmlspecialchars_decode (string  $string, [int  $flags = ENT_COMPAT | ENT_HTML401])

DESCRIPTION

	This function is the opposite of htmlspecialchars(3). It converts special HTML entities back to characters.

	The converted entities are: &amp;, &quot; (when ENT_NOQUOTES is not set), &#039; (when ENT_QUOTES is set), &lt; and &gt;.

PARAMETERS

	      o $string
		- The string to decode.

	      o $flags
		-  A bitmask of one or more of the following flags, which specify how to handle quotes and which document type to use. The default
		is ENT_COMPAT | ENT_HTML401.
