Hi,
filenames:
contains name of list of files to search in.
placelist
contains the names of places to be searched in all files in "filenames"
for i in $(<filenames)
do
egrep -f placelist $i
if ]
then
echo $i
fi
done >> outputfile

i have a file which has a column that is unique
i am intending to serach it and if it is there to remove the row.
the file looks like
ROLLNO,NAME ,SUB1,SUB2,SUB3,TOTAL,PERCENTAGE,RESULT

I am trying to combine columns from multiple text files into a single file using paste command but the record length being unequal in the different files the data is running over to the closest empty cell on the left. Please see below.

i have a file named keyword.csv(contains around 8k records) which contains a no. of columns.
The 5th column contains all the keywords.

zgrep
ZGREP(1) General Commands Manual ZGREP(1) NAME
zgrep - search possibly compressed files for a regular expression SYNOPSIS
zgrep [ grep_options ] [ -e ] pattern filename... DESCRIPTION
Zgrep invokes grep on compressed or gzipped files. These grep options will cause zgrep to terminate with an error code: (-[drRzZ]|--di*|--exc*|--inc*|--rec*|--nu*). All other options specified are passed directly to grep. If no file is specified, then the standard input is decompressed if necessary and fed to grep. Otherwise the given files are uncompressed if necessary and fed to grep. If the GREP environment variable is set, zgrep uses it as the grep program to be invoked. EXIT CODE
