In-order to check and print if file2 is a subset of file one i do the below.
However, i get the following error
line 15: [: too many arguments for the if statement in my script.
Can you please suggest how can i check if the variables var1 and var2 have the same value or not ?

I found the fix as shown below .. i overlooked this
You can get rid of the useless uses of cat and quote your arguments to test and get the same results even on shells that don't support the [[ expression ]] operators with:
but, if this gives you what you want, your definition of subset is a little strange.
If file1 contains the single line b and file2 contains the single line abc, many people would believe that file1 contains a subset of file2 but your code will not print anything for this case.

Read line by line file1 and grep every line in file2 in a for loop. any failing grep would means that it is not a subset.
