You could try a simple while loop
Code:
ls -ltr am1slc01_* | grep $mydate | awk '{print$9}' |
while read fname
do
  r=`grep -s CALL_TYPE=VOICE-MO $fname | wc -l`
  t=`echo "scale=10; ($r/60)*1000" | bc`
  echo CAPmS-slc01 $t
done

FWIW:
Rather than messing around with all of those subprocesses you could do what you want with a single awk call.

is it possible to come up with a list of files that are modified before a certain number of hours only using the grep command? ex. list files that were modified less than 10 hours ago i've only managed to list files that were created on the same day, i can't seem to figure out how to work... NAME

       zgrep - search possibly compressed files for a regular expression

SYNOPSIS

       zgrep [ grep_options ] [ -e ] pattern filename...

DESCRIPTION

       Zgrep  invokes  grep  on  compressed  or  gzipped  files.   These  grep	options  will  cause  zgrep  to  terminate  with  an  error  code:
       (-[drRzZ]|--di*|--exc*|--inc*|--rec*|--nu*).  All other options specified are passed directly to grep.  If no file is specified,  then  the
       standard input is decompressed if necessary and fed to grep.  Otherwise the given files are uncompressed if necessary and fed to grep.

       If the GREP environment variable is set, zgrep uses it as the grep program to be invoked.

EXIT CODE

       2 - An option that is not supported was specified.
