Solaris 11 no sound despite finding hardware

Sorry it took too long for a response, I crashed my UNIX Box about 5 times messing around with adding repositories and start up files and the like.
Soooo, I'm thinking that maybe I should try loading newer/older/beta drivers, just like you said.
I was on OSS's website and couldn't get Solaris to run the drivers. If someone can tell me how to do this, that would be awesome. I have been loving UNIX since installing, it's appeal can be intoxicating, however, I'm so frustrated that I can't have sound, and it totally turns me off to not hear the music I love.

I am new to this forum and hope someone can help. Does anyone know how to restore a Solaris 9 backup tape from server A to a completely different server B hardware. Both boxes are sun 64bit.

I'm trying to determine the End of Service Life for some of our Solaris servers, and I'm not sure if our servers are ROHS compliant. Is there a command to determine if the server is ROHS? If not, is there somewhere on the chasis where I can find this information? (2 Replies)

I have installed Solaris 10 on on Sun Virtual Box. I am able to browse internet on solaris 10 thru firefox, however I am not getting sound, there is cross on the tray icon of sound.

reserve_voices - Reserve a number of voices for the digital and MIDI drivers. Allegro game programming library. SYNOPSIS

Call this function to specify the number of voices that are to be used by the digital and MIDI sound drivers respectively. This must be done _before_ calling install_sound(). If you reserve too many voices, subsequent calls to install_sound() will fail. How many voices are available depends on the driver, and in some cases you will actually get more than you reserve (eg. the FM synth drivers will always pro- vide 9 voices on an OPL2 and 18 on an OPL3, and the SB digital driver will round the number of voices up to the nearest power of two). Pass negative values to restore the default settings. You should be aware that the sound quality is usually inversely related to how many voices you use, so don't reserve any more than you really need. SEE ALSO
