I don't think awk supports indirect referencing for variables.
In this case it looks like you could just use an array anyway.

Hi,
I have a problem with expending variables when used in a for loop:
#!/bin/ksh
VAR1=aaa
VAR2=bbb
VAR3=ccc
for ITEM in VAR1 VAR2 VAR3
do
echo "${ITEM}"
done

str3+=$str2
it seems that str3 variable does not keep its value in order to be concatenated in the next iteration! Thus when i print the result of the line above it returns the str2 value

SYNOPSIS
igawk [ all gawk options ] -f program-file [ -- ] file ...
igawk [ all gawk options ] [ -- ] program-text file ...
DESCRIPTION
Igawk is a simple shell script that adds the ability to have ``include files'' to gawk(1).
AWK programs for igawk are the same as for gawk, except that, in addition, you may have lines like
@include getopt.awk
in your program to include the file getopt.awk from either the current directory or one of the other directories in the search path.
OPTIONS
See gawk(1) for a full description of the AWK language and the options that gawk supports.
EXAMPLES
cat << EOF > test.awk
@include getopt.awk
