now i want to use sed on the above variable and replace + with a white space, so that i get
echo $test should give me

I am trying to match white space in patterns through - Grep
I tried ] & ] but none of them worked.
Then I tried Perl extension '\s' and it worked.
So just wanted to know if ] & ] are still supported or have they become deprecated.

When I echo $str1, it displays the new line character properly.
Now I have another new variable say str2.
I want to concatenate in this way.. str1 + newline character + and then str2.

What sed command (if sed is the right command) can remove ALL white space from my file. I have a csv, except I want to remove all white space between commas and characters.

This seems to be a stupid basic question, but I cant get the space to stick in the awk variable.
I do use this command to grep a time range of the log file.
cat /var/log/daemon.log | awk '$0>=from&&$0<=to' from="$(date +%b" "%e" "%H:%M:%S -d -24hour)" to="$(date +%b" "%e" "%H:%M:%S)"

I created a awk state to calculate the number of success however when the query runs it has a leading zero. Any ideas on how to remove the leading zero from the calculation?

volcheck - checks for media in a drive and by default checks all floppy media SYNOPSIS
volcheck [-v] [-i secs] [-t secs] pathname DESCRIPTION
The volcheck utility tells Volume Management to look at each dev/pathname in sequence and determine if new media has been inserted in the drive. The default action is to volcheck all checkable media managed by volume management. OPTIONS
The following options are supported: -i secs Set the frequency of device checking to secs seconds. The default is 2 seconds. The minimum frequency is 1 second. -t secs Check the named device(s) for the next secs seconds. The maximum number of seconds allowed is 28800, which is 8 hours. The fre- quency of checking is specified by -i. There is no default total time. -v Verbose. OPERANDS
The following operands are supported: pathname The path name of a media device. EXAMPLES
Example 1: A sample of the volcheck command. The following example example% volcheck -v /dev/diskette /dev/diskette has media asks Volume Management to examine the floppy drive for new media. The following example example% volcheck -i 2 -t 600 /dev/diskette1 & asks Volume Management if there is a floppy in the floppy drive every 2 seconds for 600 seconds (10 minutes). FILES

Due to a hardware limitation in many floppy drives, the act of checking for media causes mechanical action in the floppy drive.
