Thanks. Although this works fine for the case I presented, I noticed that there could be an issue if one of the first 3 characters was a * to begin with.
How can I use sed to replace a ctrl character such as 'new line' (\0a) to something else? Or any other good command can do this job?
Thanks,
Hillxy (5 Replies)

SYNOPSIS
irsend [options] DIRECTIVE REMOTE CODE [CODE...]
DESCRIPTION

REMOTE is the name of a remote, as described in the lircd configuration file.
CODE is the name of a remote control key of REMOTE, as it appears in the lircd configuration file.
NUM is the transmitter number of the hardware device.
For the LIST DIRECTIVE, REMOTE and/or CODE can be empty:
LIST "" "" - list all configured remote names
