Cooler GPU
In one of our computers a Zotac GPU was installed (Zotac GeForce GTX 780 3GB AMP! to be exact) and the processor remained an Intel Core i7 2600. For the processor a new after-market cooler was installed and for the GPU also, together with fans on all case grids.
Initially the temperatures as measured on the CPU were around 70C to 75C. However, after performing a software upgrade on the install stack, temperatures suddenly dropped to 40C to 45C, with no noticeable drop in performance. No other changes were made, the machine is connected as it was before, in the same location etc.
What could have caused the drop in operating temperatures?

NAME
xmbmon - X MotherBoard Monitor
SYNOPSIS
xmbmon [options]
This manual page documents briefly the xmbmon command. This manual page was written for the Debian distribution because the original pro-
gram does not have a manual page.
Recent motherboards have functionalities to monitor the CPU temperatures and the frequency of CPU cooling fans etc. Although some programs
utilizing these hardware monitoring facilities have been developed for the Microsoft Windows platforms, no programs seem to exist for PC-
UNIX and the X Windows System platforms.
xmbmon displays the three temperatures and a core voltage as simple curves.
OPTIONS
-h Show summary of options.
-g Geometry (Toolkit option), default is "100x140".
-count Counts in an interval, default is "4".
-sec Seconds of an interval, default is "20".
