Thanks a lot in2nix4life
This works the best for me since ls -l on its own returns too much info. where as I want just the file name.
The find command appends unwanted info. as well.
I however do have another subsequent command that ignores filenames with spaces. Basically, I copy the file names present into a temporary text file using in2nix4life's command above in the following way:
Now I need to count the number of lines in each file whose names are in this temporary text file which I'm doing using:
Unfortunately here its looking for different files called file, name, is & blank and not one file as it should be. I thus get:
I guess there is a way to use the wc command so that it considers file names with spaces.
I have a problem with the script below
#!/bin/sh
for vo in `find -maxdepth 1 -type f -regex "^\./*$"`
do
ls -l "$vo"
some other commands
done
It works fine until `find ...` returns files with spaces. I've tryed to change IFS but haven't succeed
Any solutions? (4 Replies)
I'm trying to do something like that:
for $filename in `ls -1`
do
some_command $filename

but it doesn't work properly for file names with spaces, for...in splits at spaces. Anyway around? (4 Replies)
I have files on my unix boxes that users have created with spaces.
Example: /tmp/project plan
ls -l "/tmp/project plan" works fine.
$/tmp>ls -l "/tmp/project plan"

I created a file called test and put just the... (2 Replies)
Hi All,
I see similar problems in past threads but so far no answers have worked for me. I am trying to write a script which parses a txt file that contains one filename per line, then finds those files on the local disk and copies them to a specified directory.

Hi
I hope someone will be able to resolve this little teaser!
I am running a script
for file in `ls directory`
do
echo "$file"
...other code here....

this works fine unless we receive a file with a name which has a space in it
ie

I want to ftp all the sh files in the directory. Also if any of the file name
contains spaces in them, it should be converted to underscores before it is ftped. I wrote the following code below:

echo "$FILESSH" |... (3 Replies)

I have a problem mounting images because of the spaces in the filenames. Does anyone know how to rename files by removing the spaces with the find command?

Hi,

I'm trying to handle some files with spaces in their name using "" or \ . Like "file 1" or file\ 1.
My current confusion can be expressed by the following shell script:
#!/bin/bash
touch "file 1" "file 2"
echo -n "ls: " ; ls
echo ---
for file in "file 1" "file 2" ; do
echo $file... (9 Replies)

Locale::Codes::LangVar(3pm) Perl Programmers Reference Guide Locale::Codes::LangVar(3pm)NAME
Locale::Codes::LangVar - standard codes for language variation identification
SYNOPSIS
use Locale::Codes::LangVar;
$lvar = code2langvar('acm'); # $lvar gets 'Mesopotamian Arabic'
$code = langvar2code('Mesopotamian Arabic'); # $code gets 'acm'
@codes = all_langvar_codes();
@names = all_langvar_names();
DESCRIPTION
The "Locale::Codes::LangVar" module provides access to standard codes used for identifying language variations, such as those as defined in
the IANA language registry.
Most of the routines take an optional additional argument which specifies the code set to use. If not specified, the default IANA language
registry codes will be used.
SUPPORTED CODE SETS
There are several different code sets you can use for identifying language variations. A code set may be specified using either a name, or
a constant that is automatically exported by this module.
For example, the two are equivalent:
$lvar = code2langvar('en','alpha-2');
$lvar = code2langvar('en',LOCALE_CODE_ALPHA_2);
The codesets currently supported are:
alpha
This is the set of alphanumeric codes from the IANA language registry, such as 'arevela' for Eastern Armenian.
This code set is identified with the symbol "LOCALE_LANGVAR_ALPHA".
This is the default code set.

Locale::Codes::LangVar::add_langvar_code_alias ( CODE ,NEW_CODE [,CODESET] )

These routines are all documented in the Locale::Codes::API man page.
