Mount with 'noatime' option

Best advice is to use Oracle ASM for Oracle database.
Put REDO in separate asm group on fast disks (SSD).
Other stuff (if using SAN) would be to use as much spindles needed for DATA and ARCH, as suggested, best is to measure the iops with iostat and determine the required physical disk count to achieve the desired response times/throughput.
For local disks things change a bit, depending on your setup, raid controller (if any) but the principle is the same.
Either add more spindles or 'fix' the code

Hi Gurus,
I mount a filesystem with -o noatime option to avoid getting the recording of time into the inode, however as on when i am doing any chnage in any file create in this file system the timestamp of the file is changing, whcih i can see with ls -l :(.
What can be the reason ?

At home i have 1 nas with 3 shares, of which i used to mount 2 of them using a script with hardcoded password and username in it.
EDIT: Turns out, its not the script, but 'how i access' the nas share.. (-o user=XY,password=... VS. -o credentials=...).

But when I try python setup.py install, I get the following error:

iostat(1) General Commands Manual iostat(1) Name iostat - report I/O statistics Syntax iostat [ -c ] [ -t ] [ disknames ] [ interval ] [ count ] Description The command reports I/O statistics for terminals, disks and cpus. For terminals the number of input and output characters are counted. For disks the number of 512 byte blocks per second and number of transfers per second are displayed. For cpus, it provides the percentage of time the system has spent in user mode, in user mode running low priority (niced) processes, in system mode, and idling. On multipro- cessor systems these cpu statistics represent a cumulative summary of all the cpus. The optional disknames argument causes disk statistics to be displayed for the specified disks. If this argument is not specified then disk statistics will be displayed for the first 3 disks only. The optional interval argument causes to report once each interval seconds. The first report is for all time since a reboot and each sub- sequent report is for the last interval only. The optional count argument restricts the number of reports. Options -c Displays the percentage of time each cpu spent in user mode, running low priority (nice'd) processes, in system mode, and idling. -t Displays the number of characters read from and written to terminals.
