This requires system level changes, like adding a driver usually.
If you are on Linux, Microsoft has a driver with an api that will let you connect.

Otherwise, try using FreeTDS (linux oriented)

From there go to and get the ODBC tools:
unixODBC
There is no builtin connection tool for any UNIX I know about that will let you do this without major fiddling around.

In order to run a script after a ftp connection, ive got initially this problem:
from unix pc machine to a Unix server i could ftp succesfully but in reverse (i mean from unix to pc machine i cant ftp. The error message is this

I am using "ksh" and trying to connect to the Microsoft SQL Server but it gives an error that is:
DB-LIBRARY error:
Unexpected EOF from SQL Server.

cubrid_ping - Ping a server connection or reconnect if there is no connection
SYNOPSIS
bool cubrid_ping ([resource $conn_identifier])
DESCRIPTION
Checks whether or not the connection to the server is working.
PARAMETERS
o $conn_identifier
- The CUBRID connection identifier. If the connection identifier is not specified, the last connection opened by cubrid_connect(3)
is assumed.
RETURN VALUES
Returns TRUE if the connection to the server CUBRID server is working, otherwise FALSE.
